    • Introduction of the topic/text.
    • Opinion statement with organizational structure listing reasons
    • Reasoning that support the opinion using linking words and phrases
    • Concluding statement/section
  • Informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic: This comprises of three steps
    • Introduce the topic. Group related information and include relevant examples to facilitate comprehension.
    • Present facts, definitions, and details for topic development. Use linking words and phrases to connect the ideas.
    • Concluding statement/section
  • Narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences: This text type entails three parts
    • Establish a situation and introduce a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally.
    • Describe actions, thoughts, and feelings to develop experiences and events or show the response of characters to situations. using temporal words
    • Provide a sense of closure

Production and Distribution of Writing: The three third grade writing tasks, in this category, require guidance and support from adults.

  • Develop, organize, and produce writing according to the task and purpose and should meet grade specific expectations.
  • Develop and strengthen writing by adequate planning, revising, and editing.
  • Produce and publish writing (using technology) to collaborate with others.

Research to Build and Present Knowledge: The two third grade writing lessons, in this section, require exploration.

  • Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.
  • Explore print and digital sources to collect information or recall adequate information from experiences; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.

Range of Writing: This third grade writing activity facilitates writing facilitates for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

  • Write regularly over extended time frames (research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two).

Everyday practice doesn’t have to be boring! While we do assign homework and ask that students practice every day (practice makes perfect), we strive to make assignments fun by offering digital badges, celebrating completion of assignments, and showcasing best efforts through our Leader Board.

Our step by step and cumulative curriculum ensures that students are provided with a sufficient amount of review and overlap of practice from each grade. This helps students fill any skill gaps and advance further in the program at a faster rate.
