Pick the right event
Filter the calendar by your child's grade. Grade groups mean your child competes with students their own age.
Use the practice material
Most tests send practice questions or a study list one to two weeks before the event. A little each day beats one long session.
Do a timed practice run
Practice under the real time limit, with no calculator for math tests, so the format feels familiar on the day.
Check the setup
A laptop or tablet, a stable connection, and a quiet space. Live rounds usually need the camera on.

In short: 98thPercentile Digital Events are free, live online competitions and masterclasses for students in Grades 1–8 across the United States. They are run by 98thPercentile, a Leadership & Acceleration Academy, cover Math, ELA, Coding, and Public Speaking, and run from September 2026 to October 2027. Every participant receives a certificate.
Yes. 98thPercentile runs free, live online competitions for students in Grades 1–8 in Math, ELA, Coding, and Public Speaking. There is no entry fee, every participant receives a certificate, and your child can join as many events as they like.
Seven math competitions run on the 2026–27 calendar: the Smart Math Olympiad, Vedic Math Olympiad Championship, 12 Days of Math Magic, Math & Myth, Summer Math Challenge, Halloween Math Mystery, and the Math Kangaroo Scholarship Test. Each groups students by grade.
No. The Math Kangaroo Scholarship Test is 98thPercentile's own free online test for Grades 1–8, built to match the structure and difficulty of the official Math Kangaroo competition. Eligible students win scholarships to the 98thPercentile Math Kangaroo Prep Program.
Live. Competitions and masterclasses run live on Zoom or in an online test portal, so your child takes part from home on a laptop or tablet. Some live rounds ask students to keep their camera on.
Yes, every participant gets one. Top performers also earn medals, badges, or finalist and champion certificates, depending on the event. Certificates can be downloaded from the Past online competitions section.
Grade 1. Several events, including the Math Kangaroo Scholarship Test and 12 Days of Math Magic, are open to Grades 1–8 with separate grade groups, so younger children compete with students their own age.
Practice little and often, then do one timed run. Use the practice questions sent before each test, try one timed practice without a calculator, and check your device and connection the day before. Registered families can also warm up with a complimentary 30-day trial of live classes.
Results usually come out the same day or within a few days. Each event has its own criteria, such as accuracy, creativity, or time taken, and every participant receives a certificate.

- Scholarships are towards 98thPercentile programs, for example the Math Kangaroo Prep Program.
- They apply to new subscriptions only and must be claimed within 15 days of the event. Awards must also be claimed within 15 days.
- Students who have won more than two awards or scholarships in the past two years are not eligible for a new scholarship.
- Participation must be independent unless an event says otherwise.
